Contact your state legislators.
The Office of Animal Protection bill will not move forward in 2024 due to limited state funding. However, the bill will be re-introduced in 2025 (a budget year) — so it is still vital to contact your legislators during the Summer and Fall. We must continue to build momentum for the bill and gain support of all state legislators.
Legislators throughout Minnesota will be holding town halls during the interim months; some too will be up for re-election in November. This is an opportunity to meet legislators in person. It's important to ask their stance on this bill and other animal issues. Sample message (or can re-phrase as a question): "I am your constituent and I support the protection of animals. The Office of Animal Protection bill (S.F. 3542/H.F. 3799) was introduced in 2024 and heard in the House and Senate. This bill will be brought back in 2025. Animal cruelty is a public safety issue that impacts both animals and people. I am asking for your understanding of this issue and your support.
